Ben's Best Five

In this course I have learned how to hone my writing, this year I've learned how to write in many ways, such as: a novel, poetry writing and how to write formal essay. These skills are important fundamentals because they are seen and used in everyday your life. Knowing these skill are important for the future because English is the gate way to many career

In my English ISP I had to include a piece of creative writing which was two pages at any point in the story. Before this project I had never created any work in the format of a book, so to go about creating these pages I thought back to a book which I had read in the class, On The Come Up. To give the reader a better connection with my main character Takami I made the narrator him which makes the style omniscient. The main reason that I'm so proud of this work is the fact that I really enjoyed making it. During the creation and writing process I never felt at any single point bored of what I was doing. I also felt as if I would want to write more of the story.

To me creating a poem is one of the harder challenges in English, so I knew I needed to think of a creative way out of the problem. My teacher then said "I wonder if you could create poem out of a Wordle" and I thought that would be a fun challenge to try. When creating poems I feel their should a link between certain words which is why my poem uses a A,B,A,B pattern. However it's not with rhyming, it's with meaning. one word describes being alone, and the other talks about being together. Im proud of this work because I had so much fun making it. To me making this poem felt more like a puzzle than anything else, I was challenged to find words which related to each other, and they each had to be four letters long

This work was an essay based on Identity. I was tasked to take a piece of media and describe who identity is betrayed in it. To do this I talked about a character named BT and how throughout the game his Identity progresses. One thing I could've done better was take down my description of the game and give a little less background info. Now although this wasn't my best work I still felt it deserved its place among my top 5 because it was the first time during my grade 10 course where I was given the chance to talk about something I was truly passionate about.

The Macbeth Essay was an opinionated based essay where I decided to write about why I believed Macbeth was the more evil character. To prove my point when making this essay I used quotations and key word analysis' to prove my points. I also talked about the structure and language features used in the script. The reason I'm proud with the work I did was the fact that there was much more information on the side that Lady Macbeth was the more evil character. However I thought it would be more fun to try and counter argument those points.

For this piece I had to create an informative opinion essay. To do this I first stated my thesis, then I took a quotation from the poem which helps support my thesis. Making sure you relate back to you thesis and that you always supporting it is one of the most important steps. I then looked at how it was structured and some of the language features which were used. I also thought about the time period which this was created in to give myself and the reader a better idea of what these soldiers had to go through. I felt gapped about this work because it was one if the first times I had created an essay in this format. I also enjoyed trying to put myself in the shoes of these soldiers and think about how they're feeling.

My Website

When creating this website I first tried to think about design aspects which I learned from a prior course called Communication Technologies. One thing this course taught me was to make what you want viewer to see, stand out. To do this I made the background a much more neutral colour to make my work more readable and stand out. When someone looks at my web site I want them to see my best work or my favourite work first, which is why I added a highlight section. This then displays one post which can be any of my choosing.
